For people in Central Coast and Whitsundays and parts of Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Herbert and Lower Burdekin and Central Highlands and Coalfields Forecast Districts.

Heavy rainfall for coastal areas between Rollingstone and Carmila, and potentially over adjacent inland areas.

Weather Situation: A weak low pressure system and an area of strong convergence to its south are currently located just offshore of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin coast. The low is forecast to drift slowly southward towards the Central Coast and Whitsundays overnight tonight, then become slow-moving through Sunday and Monday.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast to develop overnight tonight and through Sunday over parts of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin, and Central Coast and Whitsundays districts. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 100 to 180 mm are likely with isolated 24-hourly totals up to 300 mm. Elsewhere within the warning area, six-hourly rainfall totals between 80 to 120 mm are possible with isolated 24-hourly totals up to 150 mm.

Locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is also possible over southeastern parts of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin from later tonight, gradually extending over the Central Coast and Whitsundays during Sunday. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 200 to 250 mm with 24-hourly totals up to 400 mm are possible, most likely about the coast and ranges on Sunday and Monday. A separate Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued if very dangerous thunderstorms with intense rainfall are detected.

Expect the threat of heavy, locally intense rainfall to contract southwards and focus over areas south of Townsville by later tonight.

Locations which may be affected include Mackay, Charters Towers, Bowen, Townsville, Proserpine, Sarina, Ayr, Collinsville, Hamilton Island, Alva Beach, Airlie Beach and Clare.

Severe weather is no longer occurring in the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

Significant rainfall observations in the 24 hour period to 9 am AEST Saturday include:

235 mm at Forbes Road.

208 mm at Calen.

205 mm at Cungulla.

198 mm at Finch Hatton.

126 mm at St Anns (Central Highlands).

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
