MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE ACROSS THE FLOOD WATCH AREA, WITH ISOLATED MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE LATER IN THE WEEKEND

Heavy to locally intense rainfall in showers and severe thunderstorms is possible for northern, western and central Queensland for the next several days, with a monsoon trough developing across northern Queensland from today and likely to continue for the next several days.

Catchments across the flood watch area are wet to saturated from recent rainfall and are likely to respond relatively quickly to further rainfall.

Areas of heavy to locally intense rainfall, becoming more widespread from Saturday, are likely across this weekend and into next week. Successive days of heavy rainfall are likely over some areas.

Minor to moderate flooding is possible this weekend, with isolated major flooding possible from later in the weekend. Heavy rainfall, possibly intense at times, may cause localised flooding, including flash flooding. Disruption to transport routes is likely across parts of the Flood Watch area.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Leichhardt River

Upper Flinders River

Cloncurry River

Herbert River

Black River (including Bluewater Creek)

Ross and Bohle Rivers

Haughton River

Belyando and Suttor Rivers to Burdekin Falls Dam

Cape River to Burdekin Falls Dam

Burdekin River to Burdekin Falls Dam

Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls Dam

Don and Proserpine Rivers

Pioneer River (A minor flood warnings is current)

Comet and Nogoa Rivers

Connors, Isaac and Styx Rivers and Plane Creek (A minor flood warning is
current)

Flooding is no longer expected in the following catchments: Daintree River, Mossman River, Barron River, Mulgrave and Russell Rivers, Johnstone River, Tully River, Murray River.
