For people in Herbert and Lower Burdekin and parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Central Coast and Whitsundays Forecast Districts.

Heavy rainfall developing about the tropical coast and adjacent inland between Innisfail and north of Mackay from Saturday.

Weather Situation:
Local convergence within a very moist airmass is developing about the northeast Queensland coast associated with a deepening trough. This trough is forecast to remain a significant feature and drift slowly southwards during today and over the weekend.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for the coastal region between Innisfail and Bowen from early Saturday morning. During Saturday HEAVY RAINFALL is forecast to then extend to adjacent inland areas and the coast north of Mackay, and continue into Sunday. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 100 to 180 mm are likely, while isolated 24-hour totals over 300mm possible are possible.

Locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is also possible over small portions of the warning area during this period, with six-hour rainfall totals exceeding 200 mm. A separate severe thunderstorm warning will be issued if this activity eventuates.

Locations which may be affected include Charters Towers, Bowen, Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Innisfail, Ayr, Proserpine, Cardwell, Hamilton Island, Giru and Lucinda.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
