It has been reported that a ferry operating between Airlie Beach and one of the islands hit a whale on Wednesday 7 September AM, which was badly injured. It is possible this incident is related to the discovery of a whale washed up on a Mackay beach this week.
We encourage the ferry company involved to think again about responsibly divulging this important incident, so as to assist the authorities with formulating better marine transport practices due to the ever increasing whale population.
