QLD Flood Watch: Daintree to Mackay, Western Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf of Carpentaria Catchments

Continued river level rises are expected in the Flood Watch area over the next few days.

The monsoon trough extends across north Queensland and is forecast to remain active over the region through the weekend.

Some of the catchments in the Flood Watch area are currently flooding or have experienced flooding in the past week. Rivers and streams in these areas will respond faster to further rainfall.

Areas of locally heavy rainfall is expected to continue across the Flood Watch area through the weekend.

Areas across Cape York Peninsula are expected to record the heaviest rainfall totals over the next 24-48 hours. Further showers and storms, with locally heavy rainfall at times, is likely in the coastal catchments between Daintree and Mackay.

Heavy rainfall may also lead to flash flooding.

Flood Warnings are current for the following catchments: Murray, Herbert, Ross, Bohle, Burdekin, Isaac, Leichhardt, Nicholson, Gregory, Flinders, Cloncurry, Gilbert, Norman, Thomson, Barcoo, Georgina, and Diamantina Rivers and Cooper Creek.
