QLD Severe Weather Warning: Damaging Winds & Heavy Rain

For people in Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Coast and Whitsundays and parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West, Central Highlands and Coalfields and Central West Forecast Districts.

Heavy rainfall risk remains possible between Cardwell and Sarina and adjacent inland, and also over the northwestern interior.

Weather Situation: A deep tropical low, located about 100 kilometres north of Julia Creek, extends a vigorous monsoon trough eastward through about Rollingstone. Both features are currently slow moving.

EAST COAST AND ADJACENT INLAND AREAS:

Areas of heavy rainfall could continue in the warning area during today and overnight, particularly with thunderstorms. Six-hourly totals between 150mm and 200mm are possible.
120mm fell at Michael Creek alert in the 6 hours to 1am.

Damaging wind gusts around 90km/h are possible in coastal areas south of Airlie Beach, particularly overnight.

Locations which may be affected include Cardwell, Ingham, Townsville, Bowen, Ayr, Palm Island, Rollingstone, Proserpine, Collinsville, the Whitsunday Islands, Mackay and Sarina.

NORTHWESTERN INTERIOR:

Heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding, is likely to continue across the northwestern interior south of the tropical low. Six-hourly rainfall totals of 60mm to 120mm are possible.

79mm fell at Richmond in the 6 hours to 2am.

83mm fell at Punchbowl Road in the 6 hours to 1am.

Locations which may be affected include Julia Creek, Richmond, Hughenden and Winton.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
