QLD Severe Weather Warning: Heavy Rain

Issued at 4:57 pm Friday, 7 December 2018. Heavy rainfall likely to develop between Innisfail and St Lawrence on Saturday night and Sunday. Weather Situation: At 5pm AEST Friday, ex-tropical cyclone Owen was located in the Coral Sea about 570 km east-northeast of Cairns. Ex-tropical cyclone Owen is expected to move closer to the Queensland coast over the weekend. Heavy rain, which may lead to flash flooding, is expected to develop in coastal and adjacent inland areas between Innisfail and St Lawrence on Saturday night and continue into Sunday. Six hourly totals in excess of 150mm are possible. Locations which may be affected include Mackay, Proserpine, Bowen, Townsville, Palm Island, Collinsville, Hamilton Island, Ingham, Innisfail, Ayr, Cardwell and Lucinda. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. |
