QLD Severe Weather Warning: Heavy Rain
Source: Bureau of Meteorology For people in Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Coast and Whitsundays and parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands Forecast Districts. Issued at 5:05 pm Saturday, 8 December 2018. Heavy rainfall expected for areas between Mareeba and St Lawrence tonight and Sunday. Weather Situation: At 4pm AEST Saturday, ex-tropical cyclone Owen was located in the Coral Sea about 360 km east of Cairns. Ex-tropical cyclone Owen is expected to move west-southwest and approach the north Queensland coast Sunday. Heavy rain, which may lead to flash flooding, is expected to develop in coastal and adjacent inland areas between Mareeba and St Lawrence tonight and continue into Sunday. Six hourly totals in excess of 150mm are possible. Locations which may be affected include Mackay, Proserpine, Collinsville, Hamilton Island, Bowen, Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Lucinda, Cardwell, Tully, Innisfail and Mareeba. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. |
