A police officer was bitten and had blood spat in his face at Airlie Beach last night.
Around 9pm police attended a licenced premises on Shute Harbour Road due to a disturbance and arrested a man.
It will be alleged the man struggled with police before biting a male officer on the arm, drawing blood. It will further be alleged the man then spat blood into the officer’s face.
At this time a crowd controller came to the aid of the officers and was allegedly kicked in the chest.
A 29-year-old New South Wales man has been charged with serious assault police, serious assault person acting in the aid of police officer, obstruct police and fail to leave licensed premises. He is expected to appear at the Proserpine Magistrates Court today.
The officer, 29, was taken to the Proserpine Hospital for treatment.
