Ferry collides with tender

A Cruise Whitsundays ferry has collided with a tender just off Daydream Island at 1pm this afternoon.

The CW Launch 'Swordfish' collided with a tender carrying three people who were thrown overboard. All three were rescued and none received serious injuries.

Whitsundays Water Police attended the incident and investigations are continuing.

Cruise Whitsundays is owned by the Chairman of Tourism Whitsundays, Chris Jacobs.

This is the third serious incident involving a business run by a Director of Tourism Whitsundays within a month:
  • On 15 Jan, a 27 year old man died at the Waters Edge Resort, Airlie Beach - this resort is run by the Treasurer of Tourism Whitsundays, Jeff Aquilina.
  • On the 29th December, a woman drowned between Hamilton Island and Whitsunday Island when a Hamilton Island Water Sports boat capsized.  Hamilton Island's General Manager is Glenn Bourke who is also a Director of Tourism Whitsundays.
