QLD Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Large Hail, Flash Flooding, Damaging Winds Source: Bureau of Meteorology For people in the Central Coast and Whitsundays, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett, Southeast Coast and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields and Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast Districts. Issued at 6:34 pm Thursday, 13 October 2011. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Dalby, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay and Kingaroy. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Central West and Maranoa and Warrego districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED. A 98km/hr wind gust was recorded at Emerald airport at 5:25pm. 110mm of rainfall has been reported at Mt Alford within 2 hours at 5:00pm. 63mm of rainfall has been recorded at Mt Cotton within 30minutes at 4:45pm. 2cm hail was reported at Forest Lake and 3cm hail was reported at Springfield earlier in the afternoon. Widespread small hail has been reported near Logan earlier in the afternoon. Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
