'Starship Enterprise' will take on all the functions that are currently undertaken by Tourism Whitsundays and Enterprise Whitsunday, and reduce some of those that are duplicated.
Cost synergies and non-replication of tasks may result in some staff being laid off.
The new entity will be run by by Peter O'Reilly as the CEO. Mr O'Reilly is the current CEO of Tourism Whitsundays.
The new board of Tourism Whitsundays will be reduced to three. It is believed that two of those are Kellie Medford and Chris Jacobs.
It is believed the staff of Enterprise Whitsunday first heard of the merger from us through a post on SocialMedia.
