CANCELLATION OF SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for Flash Flooding
For people in the Central Coast and Whitsundays and Herbert and Lower Burdekin
districts between Townsville and Mackay.

Synoptic Situation: A trough over the northwest Coral Sea extends onto the
northeast tropical coast of Queensland. A high over the Tasman Sea extends a
ridge along the east coast to the south of the trough.
Rain areas with some heavy falls will continue over the area for the remainder
of the week. While 24 hour rainfall totals of 100mm to 200mm are likely, the
intensity of this rainfall is not expected to reach Severe Weather Warning
criteria. Isolated thunderstorms may produce more intense rain periods and
Severe Thunderstorm Warnings will be issued if necessary.
River and creek rises remain likely in the areas of heaviest rainfalls. Flood
Warnings remain current for coastal rivers and streams between Townsville and
Mackay, including the Don River. Please refer to the latest warnings at

Highest rainfall totals to 9 am Wednesday include 254mm at Proserpine and 213mm
at Mt Jukes.
The State Emergency Service advises that people in the affected area should:
· Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters
· Avoid swimming in swollen rivers and creeks
