Search continues for missing vessel, Prudhoe Island

Whitsunday Water Police and Volunteer Marine Rescue are currently searching waters north of Prudhoe Island for an overdue fishing vessel.

The vessel, skippered by a 79-year-old man, left the Sarina boat ramp on Thursday morning around 8.30 for an overnight fishing trip in a 5.2metre vessel.

The South Mackay man made contact on Thursday night to check in but failed to return on Friday and has not been seen or heard from since since.

Adverse weather conditions, including rough seas and persistent rain fall, continue across the search area.

Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
