The Day Airlie Beach Died

Sing to the tune "American Pie"

A not so long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music in Airlie made me smile.
And I knew if TW had a chance
That there would be less people out to dance
And our town would be unhappy for a while.

But February made me shiver
With every news I’d deliver.
From my desk here on the internet;
Of businesses taking their final step.

I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about how Palm Bay died,
But something touched me deep inside
The day Airlie Beach died.

So bye-bye, Mr Peter O'Rie.
Your behaviour is too heavy,
And your humour is dry.
And on the plane you are drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day Airlie dies.
"this’ll be the day Airlie dies."

Did you try to get more flights,
Or do want Airlie to get last rites?
If Tourism Queensland tells you so?
Do you believe in being rolled,
So we can save Airlie's soul,
And when you leave, please don't be slow.

Well, I know that you love flying
`getting out of town 'cause Airlie's dying.
You have kicked us all in the gut.
Now Airlie Beach is stuck in a rut.

Just five years ago we couldn't look back
As everything was going 'on track',
But I knew we were out of luck
The day Airlie Beach died.

We started singin’,
So bye-bye, Mr Peter O'Rie.
Your behaviour is too heavy,
And your humour is dry.
And on the plane you are drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day Airlie dies.
"this’ll be the day Airlie dies."
