Issued at 11:00 am on Saturday 20 November 2010 Synoptic Situation: At 10am, a trough was situated off the southern tropical Queensland coast. The trough is expected to remain slow moving throughout the remainder of today. Heavy rainfall falling about the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and Central Coast and Whitsundays districts is likely to cause flash flooding in areas between Cardwell and St Lawrence today. Recent Events: Approximately 110mm of rain has been recorded at Hamilton Island and Rowallan Park within the past 6 hours. 90mm of rain has also been recorded at Halifax within the past 6 hours. The State Emergency Service advises that people in the affected area should: · avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters Contact the SES on 132 500 for emergency assistance if required.
