Voters against further mismanagement

Update: 9.00am Monday August 23, 2010
The Queensland State MP for Whitsunday, Jan Jarratt, must be most concerned - her voting booths secured less than one third of the votes ...  (continued at bottom of story)

Saturday's election has shown us how much the ALP is 'on the nose' in the Whitsundays, in particular the tourism precinct, where the swing against the ALP was 11.45%.

Mike Brunker, the Australian Labor Party candidate for Dawson, appears to be going back to his old job as Mayor of Whitsunday Regional Council, as seven percent of voters across the seat of Dawson swung against him in yesterdays Federal Election.

Currently, 77 percent of an eligible 94,553 votes have been counted across Dawson: (Latest results)

Whitsundays Regional Council
A lot of people in the Whitsunday Regional Council district are concerned about Mr Brunker's style as Mayor. If this election was also for Mayor, then Mike Brunker would have lost, securing just over 1 in 3 votes.

Tourism Whitsundays
We have mentioned a few times our concerns about Tourism Whitsundays links to the Australian Labor Party. The swing in the 'Tourism Whitsundays' dependent polling booths against Labor was 2/3 higher than the average across the whole seat - 11.45% compared to the average of 7%:

Airlie Beach Main Street

The upgrade of the Main Street of Airlie Beach received several visitations from ALP candidates and heavyweights accompanied by Enterprise Whitsundays and Tourism Whitsundays management and directors.  The following results show that there was a huge protest vote against the ALP in the Airlie Beach and Cannonvale polling booths, with the ALP candidate securing less than 1 in 4 votes:

These results show a direct link to voter dissatisfaction in how the way tourism and enterprise are promoted and managed in the Whitsundays, in particular Airlie Beach.

If we apply the results from the Polling Booths that are located within the Queensland state seat of Whitsundays, we see a very interesting result, that would probably cause a lot of concern for the sitting ALP member, Jan Jarratt. (PDF Map for the QLD seat of Whitsunday).

These next figures must be the scariest for the QLD ALP spin doctors. It appears that over one third of voters who voted Labor in the 2009 QLD state election, voted Green or LNP this time.
