What? Another auction?

The National Geographic's pay TV series; 'The Best Job in the World', starring Hamilton Island caretaker, Ben Southall, will be appearing on tv sets around the world from next week, and for Hamilton Island, it couldn't be sooner.

According to Google, interest in travelling to Hamilton Island has slowly decreased since Ben copped an irukandji sting off Hamilton Island in the last few days of his caretaking position on the island.

Six days ago, Hamilton Island joined Airlie Beach in scoring its lowest level of interest this century for people searching to holiday there.

Interest in travelling to Airlie Beach (20km W of Hamilton Island) reached a new low last month* at the conclusion of a poor performing eBay campaign.

Ironically, Tourism Queensland is about to attempt a similar style campaign this afternoon (Tue 27 Apr 2010).

Cyclone Ului hit the Whitsunday Islands and Mainland late in the evening of Saturday 20 March, 2010, and its progress was well documented in the media for several days prior and after the storm hit. The cyclone does not appear to have had any significant impact on people searching for travel information about the Whitsundays.

On 23 April 2010, Jetstar advertised $39 air fares from Brisbane to Hamilton Island, and $79 from Sydney to Hamilton Island. Jetstar will be ceasing Tue & Wed flights to Hamilton Island from Brisbane and Melbourne next month, after a much publicised lobbying caimpaign by Tourism Whitsundays.

* On the 15th April 2010, travel interest in Airlie Beach again recorded a new low.

To increase tourism in the Whitsundays you need to start moving away from the islands and airlie beach and start promoting areas like Proserpine (not just its sugar industry cause no one is interested in that), Kelsey Creek & Dittmer (Gold Mining, Scenic Mountains, Beautiful Creeks, Picnic Areas, Look out potential) Im absolutely positive if you start promoting tourism on the west side of the highway numbers will start to pick up.
