Aussies visiting Whitsundays plummet 26%

Australians visiting the Whitsundays have dropped a massive 26%.

However, domestic tourism to other regions in Queensland have made impressive gains:

Fraser Coast is up 28%;
Central QLD is up 26%;
Toowoomba is up 12%;
Queensland's share of domestic tourism is up 1%.

What more can we say except that:
the 'Best Job in the World' campaign was based in the Whitsundays.

When will the marketing people acknowledge they got it wrong? When hell freezes over?

While the Whitsundays tourism numbers have made a spectacular fall, other regions have made strong gains, so blame can not be put down onto the Global Financial Crisis.

Holiday airfares are at the lowest levels ever, so we can't blame the airlines.

The weather in the Whitsundays during the period the survey was taken has been exceptional, so we can't blame God.

For the greater good of the local residents, businesses and services in the struggling Whitsunday region, the Queensland Government should wind up Tourism Whitsundays, and sack its Board and management, now.

Plunging tourism figures over the past four years have shown that TW is incapable of promoting tourism here in the Whitsunday region.
