QLD Flood Watch: Daintree to Mackay, the Western Cape York Peninsula, Gulf of Carpentaria

Widespread moderate to major flooding is expected in the Flood Watch area over the next few days.

The monsoon trough extends across north Queensland and is forecast to remain in the region across the weekend and into next week.

Some of the catchments in the Flood Watch area are currently flooding or have experienced flooding in the past week. This will result in a faster response in the rivers to any further rainfall.

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue across the Flood Watch area for the next few days with some catchments expected to receive multiple days of heavy rainfall.

Areas between Bowen and Mackay that have not seen significant rainfall in the past few days can expect to see widespread daily rainfall totals of around 200 mm during Monday and Tuesday.

Heavy rainfall may also lead to flash flooding.

Flood Warnings are current for the following catchments: Tully, Murray, Herbert, Ross, Bohle, Haughton, Burdekin, Don, Isaac, Leichhardt, Nicholson, Gregory, Flinders, Cloncurry, ,Gilbert, Norman, Thompson, Barcoo, Georgina, and Diamantina Rivers.
