QLD Flood Watch: Proserpine and Cape Tribulation

Source: Bureau of Meteorology

Issued at 12:20 pm EST on Wednesday 9 January 2019

Flood Watch Number: 3

River level rises above the minor flood level are possible across the Flood Watch area from late Wednesday onwards.

Heavy rainfall is possible on the Central Coast during Wednesday with rainfall then moving northwards over the North Tropical Coast later in the week.

Catchments between Cape Tribulation and Ingham are currently wet and river levels will respond quickly to the forecast rainfall. Elsewhere, catchments are drier and will initially be less responsive to rainfall.

Heavy rainfall may also lead to local flooding.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Daintree River
Mossman River
Barron River
Mulgrave and Russell Rivers
Johnstone River
Tully River
Murray River
Herbert River
Black River
Ross and Bohle Rivers
Haughton River
Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls Dam
Don and Proserpine Rivers

River level rises are occurring but flooding is no longer expected in the following catchments: Pioneer River, Connors, Isaac and Styx Rivers and Plane Creek, Dawson and Don Rivers, Calliope River.
