QLD Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Heavy Rain

For people in parts of Central Coast and Whitsundays Forecast District.

Issued at 2:39 am Saturday, 9 January 2021.
Heavy rainfall continues over Central Coast and Whitsundays.

A strong southeast surge is moving up the coast enhancing showers and isolated thunderstorms on and east of the ranges.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Proserpine and Airlie Beach.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Central Highlands and Coalfields district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.
Upper Finch Hatton (east of Eungella) recorded 235mm since 9am Friday.
Eungella has recorded 139mm since 9am Friday.
Proserpine has recorded 125mm since 9am Friday.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
