QLD Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Heavy Rain |  | Source: Bureau of Meteorology
For people in parts of the
Central Coast and Whitsundays Forecast District.
Issued at 1:31 pm Sunday, 13 April 2014.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Proserpine, Bowen and Hamilton Island.
Bowen recorded 54mm in the 30 minutes to 1:30pm and 103mm in the one hour to 1:30pm.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
