QLD Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Heavy Rain, Damaging Winds

For people in the Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Coast and Whitsundays and parts of the Northern Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Central Highlands and Coalfields and Capricornia Forecast Districts.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and parts of the Northern Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Central Coast and Whitsundays districts. Locations which may be affected include Bowen, Townsville, Ingham, Innisfail, Ayr and Cardwell.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in the Central Coast and Whitsundays and parts of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Highlands and Coalfields and Capricornia districts. Locations which may be affected include Mackay, Proserpine, Moranbah, Collinsville, Hamilton Island and Sarina.

50mm of rain was recorded in an hour at Moranbah Airport.
30mm of rain was recorded in 10 minutes at Tully Alert.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
