Serious assault on police in Airlie Beach this morning


Police have charged a 33-year-old Jubliee Pocket man with serious assault after an incident in Airlie Beach this morning.
Around 8am, police attempted to intercept a vehicle on Shute Harbour Road, when it allegedly drove away in a dangerous manner.
The driver was located a short time later in his car, and became aggressive towards police.
It is alleged that the two Constables were attempting to arrest the man when one of them was punched in the face and the other received a laceration to his neck from being scratched.
The man was detained and transported to the Whitsunday Watchhouse.
He has been charged with a number of offences including evade police, assault police and serious assault, and is due to appear in the Proserpine Magistrates Court tomorrow.
