Original Story 10.30am Wed 19 Oct 2011
A police car chase starting in Proserpine this morning & reaching speeds over 150km/h has concluded in the Mackay region.
At around 9am this morning, a motorist rang Proserpine Police station and advised them of a white Nissan Maxima driving dangerously on the Bruce Highway, heading south at around Gregory River, about 15kms north of Proserpine.
Police then found out the vehicle had been stolen from Cardwell 2 days earlier and tried to pull the vehicle over 3km N of Proserpine, where it failed to stop. The chase continued south with Police unable to keep up even when doing 140km/h.
At Bloomsbury, Police came upon the 2 men with the stolen car at the Mobil service station getting fuel. When they spotted the Police, they then proceeded to head south on the Bruce Highway - it again sped out of sight of the chasing Police vehicle. Police then asked the truckies in the area via UHF CB radio to advise them of the stolen vehicles location.
Truckies advised the Police the stolen car had pulled into the Caltex service station 1km north of Calen - several truckies intervened and attempted to halt the two men in the stolen car. A police vehicle then rammed the drivers door of the stolen car as it exited the service station and it then continued south towards Calen.
Police had set up a roadblock at Calen and attempted to deploy road spikes, but the stolen vehicle swerved towards the Police officer and attempted to run him over.
The stolen vehicle continued south towards Mackay with Police in full pursuit. We lost contact at this point.
Queensland Police have advised us that the pursuit has concluded in the last hour - more details to come.
