It's Time

Another voice expressing concerns about Tourism management in the Whitsundays has been launched by Phil Batty.

Phil is editing the blog 'Whitsunday Action' at http://whitsundayaction.blogspot.com .

Phil was General Manager for Daydream Island in 2003/4, plus also did a stint running the Whitsunday Sailing Club,

Sun Princess
While working as General Manager of Daydream Island, Phil sponsored the first Virgin Blue flights into Proserpine. In 2004, he lobbied successfully for the cruise ships to call in to the Whitsundays - Sun Princess is in Airlie Beach today. Any business on Airlie Beach main street must be thankful for his efforts in obtaining the ships to call in here.

Since Peter O'Reilly took the reins at Tourism Whitsundays as it's CEO, we have seen several flights from Proserpine get axed, and a fully tenanted  main street in Airlie Beach degrade to now include around 50 vacant shops, and major declines in 'bums on beds'.

And just down the road, Mackay is screaming for more hotels . . . .
