Police wish to remind all motorists that for all traffic and travel advice please visit http://131940.qld.gov.au/ or call 131940. Motorists should also monitor local council and local radio for all current information.
Some current road closures include the following. This is not an exhaustive list and members of the public are urged to contact the above website and phone numbers prior to commencing any journey.
* Capricorn Highway is closed at Duaringa
* Capricorn Highway closed north of Emerald at Theresa Creek
* Roads west of Emerald to Jericho are closed at various places
* Capricorn Highway between Alpha and Barcaldine is closed
* Capricorn Highway at various locations, no access from Emerald to Dingo to Rockhampton
* Dawson Highway through Banana Shire is closed
* Beef Road to Middlemount and Dingo and also The Golden Mile, Middlemount to Dysart are closed
* Carnarvon Highway between Injune and Rolleston is closed
Local roads around Rockhampton are also experiencing flooding but alternate routes are available.
Police are urging everyone to limit any non-essential travel in these areas and in areas experiencing heavy rainfall. If you are travelling you need to ensure that you have contingencies in place in case you become stranded at the side of the road. Ensure you have sufficient food, water, medications and other supplies sufficient for those in your vehicle.
Remember that road closures are constantly changing as water levels rise and fall quickly. Members of the public need to constantly check for updates and obey road closure signs.
Police remind motorists not to attempt to cross flooded roads or causeways. Do not risk your life, the lives of those in your vehicle and the lives of rescuers. Nothing is so important that you need to enter floodwaters. If you are stranded please remain patient.
