Why should Hamilton Island worry?

Pride or prejudice?

Most residents on Hamilton Island will have paid very little attention to the announcement that Geoff Dixon, the ex CEO of Qantas (and Jetstar), has been appointed the new Chairman of Tourism Australia.

I wonder if Mr Dixon holds any resentment towards the residents of Hamilton Island, and if so, will this affect the future promotion of Hamilton Island, and worse, the Whitsundays?

Six years ago, Geoff Dixon, as CEO of Qantas, made this extraordinary statement:

It is rumored that Mr Dixon later sent an apology to Hamilton Island, but as this was not made made public (as I was a resident of Hamilton Island at this time, so I would have known), then I believe this rumor of an apology to be false.

Here is the full story, that was aired by the Australian Seven Network, on the Today Tonight programme, on 4 December 2003.
