Chalco has asked the QLD Government for permission to postpone its plans to construct and operate a alumina refinery at Abbot Point, near Bowen.
The proposed alliance between Chalco and Rio Tinto appears to be the main reason for the change in Chalco's plans, and it will probably be built in Gladstone now, where Rio Tinto has interests already there.
