QLD Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Heavy Rain, Damaging Winds

For people in Central Coast and Whitsundays and parts of Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

Heavy, locally intense, thunderstorms northwest of Proserpine.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding and damaging winds over the next several hours in the Central Coast and Whitsundays and parts of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts. Locations which may be affected include Mackay, Proserpine, Bowen, Collinsville, Hamilton Island and Sarina.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Central Coast and Whitsundays district. Locations which may be affected include Proserpine.
57mm recorded in 30 minutes at Roma Peak (northwest of Proserpine).

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
