QLD Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Heavy Rain
Source: Bureau of Meteorology For people in parts of Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Herbert and Lower Burdekin, North West, Central Coast and Whitsundays and Central West Forecast Districts. Issued at 6:45 pm Tuesday, 29 January 2019. Heavy thunderstorms over the northwest and now developing over Abbot Point. Weather Situation: Heavy, monsoonal thunderstorm activity continuing across the northwest, near-stationary between Burketown and Donors Hills. A strengthening convergence zone near the Whitsundays is producing very heavy activity over Abbot Point, near Bowen. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Cloncurry, Bowen, Richmond, Julia Creek, Kamilaroi Station and Augustus Downs Station. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Peninsula district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.  |
